2012 Holden Malibu

Holden’s engineers have commenced local fine-tuning work on the all-new Holden Malibu medium sedan ahead of its launch at the end of 2012.

Specialists from Holden’s Powertrain Engineering team are currently calibrating the Malibu for General Motors’ global markets, as well as for Australia’s unique conditions. The car will be badged as a Chevrolet in almost 100 countries around the world, but the Holden Malibu will get a badge transplant and a chassis tune-up for the home market.

The Malibu will be available with a seven-inch colour touchscreen incorporating Bluetooth audio streaming and will conceal a 15cm-deep bin for storing phones and wireless devices.

The exterior is fitted with LED taillights and the alloy wheel selection will range from 17 to 19 inches.

The Malibu is being calibrated at Holden’s Lang Lang Proving Ground in Victoria and is also being evaluated on public roads. It has been pictured at the coastal resort town of Phillip Island.

Aussie Engineers Begin Work on All-New Malibu

Holden's engineering team has been recruited to help fine-tune the stunning new mid-sized Malibu that will go on sale in Australia late next year.

Engineers from Holden's Powertrain Engineering team are currently calibrating the Malibu for GM's global markets, where it will play an important role in the Chevrolet portfolio.

The Malibu is being calibrated at Holden's Lang Lang Proving Ground in Victoria and is also being evaluated on public roads. It has been pictured at the coastal resort town of Phillip Island.

Holden's work forms part of GM's global workshare strategy, which uses the available resources and skills of the company's engineers from around the world to perform development work on future model cars. It will see the team continue to work on Malibu until the end of 2012.

Holden will bring the Malibu nameplate to Australia for the first time in late 2012 with a line-up of fuel efficient and responsive four cylinder engines. Outside Australia, it will be sold under the Chevrolet name in nearly 100 countries around the world.

2012 Chevrolet Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition shows

General Motors officially unveiled the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro 45th Anniversary Edition to a crowd of dealers and enthusiasts on the eve of the Indianapolis 500.

Most of the limited edition changes are found inside the Camaro. There’s loads of soft-touch surfaces around the cabin and on the dash, a new more user-friendly steering wheel, a revised instrument panel layout, and Jet Black leather with red, white and blue stitching.

The droptop muscle car boasts a slew of tweaks that are destined to eventually make their way to the greater Camaro lineup, including new soft-touch materials on the dash, a new steering wheel that's not ridiculous to use, and a few suspension changes. GM tells us that SS models will be equipped with the new FE4 suspension package, born from the development the upcoming Camaro ZL1. V6 Camaros will now pack 323 horsepower, a gain of 11 over the 2011 model-year cars.

Unique 20-inch alloy wheels also set the car apart. They are supported by an FE4 sports suspension package, which includes solid front and rear sway bars and revised suspension geometry to provide a more responsive chassis and improved handling.

2012 Camaro: 45th Anniversary Edition Boosts Power, Comfort

Sports car brings new, more powerful V-6, sport suspension and new technologies

DETROIT – Chevrolet Camaro, America's most popular sports car, extends its momentum with enhancements for the 2012 model year. Highlights include an improved version of its standard 3.6L direct injection V-6 engine, a new FE4 performance suspension package for SS coupes and several interior and technology improvements, such as a revised instrument panel design, new steering wheel and rear camera system.

The enhancements arrive in time for Camaro's 45th birthday, which will be celebrated with this summer's release of the 45th Anniversary Special Edition Camaro. Continuing the tradition of Camaro anniversary models, the 45th Anniversary Special Edition carries all the upgrades for 2012, with additional unique design elements, inside and out.

"The appeal of Camaro design and performance has powered it to the top of its segment," said Rick Scheidt, vice president of Chevrolet marketing. "For 2012, we're capitalizing on that momentum with enhancements to Camaro's performance and comfort."

Also coming in early 2012 is the high-performance Camaro ZL1, the most technologically advanced car ever developed in its segment.

Class-leading 3.6L V-6 engine

Camaro's new 3.6L direct injection V-6 – the LFX engine – goes into production this summer. It delivers an SAE-certified 323 horsepower (241 kW) at 6,800 rpm – an increase of 11 horsepower (8 kW) over the 2011 engine, with no compromise in fuel economy.

The LFX delivers the most standard power in the regular sports car segment. It is also 20.5 pounds (9.3 kg) lighter than its predecessor, which promotes a more balanced driving experience. EPA-estimated highway fuel economy for the '12 Camaro is 30 mpg (2LS model).

Compared to the 3.6L V-6 in 2011 models, the new LFX engine features:

New cylinder head design with integrated exhaust manifold
Improved intake port design and larger intake valves within the cylinder heads
Longer-duration intake camshafts
Composite intake manifold
New fuel pump and isolated fuel rail
New, optimized-flow fuel injectors
Structural front cover and cylinder block enhancements
Stronger and lighter-weight connecting rods
Camshaft cap and throttle body design enhancements.

Direct injection is the key technology enabling the engine's combination of power and efficiency. It optimizes fuel delivery to the combustion chamber by introducing fuel closer to the combustion chamber. The result is better efficiency in the combustion process leading to increased fuel efficiency at part and full throttle. It also uses a new fuel pump for the direct injection system, along with a new, isolated fuel rail. The new fuel pump is quieter, while the isolated fuel rail further reduces fuel system noise.

FE4 suspension enhances performance

The new FE4 suspension debuts as a performance improvement for the Camaro SS coupe in 2012, focusing on more refined handling.

"Our objective was to create a more precise sport suspension for the SS coupe, with greater road-holding capability," said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. "We applied lessons learned from extensive track testing to better refine the suspension geometry for flatter cornering, a more neutral balance during hard turns, and minimized understeer at the limit."

Elements of the FE4 package include:

Retuned front and rear dampers
New solid front (23 mm) and rear (24 mm) stabilizer bars
Twenty-inch aluminum wheels and P245/45R20 front/P275/40R20 rear tires (SS).

More than just new components, the new FE4 performance suspension incorporates learning from the ongoing development of the high-performance Camaro ZL1. In particular, the suspension geometry has been adjusted, including reshaped stabilizer bars that are repositioned outboard of the shock mounts. This results in more effective body control and more precise response in performance driving.

Interior, exterior and technology updates

The 2012 model year brings appearance, ergonomic and technology upgrades inside for Camaro drivers and passengers. The interior updates include a revised instrument panel appearance, with new instrument graphics and trim, as well as a new steering wheel design and a power lift feature for the front passenger seat. The steering wheel features a fresh new look and ergonomic improvements intended to support performance driving.

Also new for Camaro in 2012 is a Rear Vision Package, which adds a rearview camera system and an auto-dimming mirror to the existing Rear Park Assist feature. The rearview camera system complements the rear parking assist by providing a video display of the area behind the car, with the video image appearing in the car's inside rearview mirror.

On the exterior for 2012, a new rear spoiler will be added as a standard feature for Camaro; and the taillamps that had been a part of the RS appearance package option are also being made standard. Additionally, a new, body-color "sharkfin" antenna joins the RS package.
Crystal Red Tintcoat replaces Red Jewel as an exterior color.

45th Anniversary package details

Launching this summer, the 45th Anniversary Special Edition commemorates both Camaro's lineage and its 21st-century revival. Camaro fans will get their first look at the 45th Anniversary Special Edition at the Camaro5 Fest II, April 15 in Arizona. The anniversary package will be offered on Camaro's top two trim levels (2LT and 2SS) for both coupe and convertible body styles.

The exterior signature of the 45th Anniversary Special Edition is its unique rally stripe, in red and silver, that contrasts the Carbon Flash Metallic paint. The package also includes:

Unique 45th Anniversary hood and deck stripes; badges located beneath the front fender emblems
New-design 20-inch wheels in dark silver
Fog lamp and taillamp bezels finished in dark silver
RS-style taillamp lenses

Endora SC-1 announced

A German company from Karlshuld has released the Endora SC-1, a sports car combining the past and the present. The SC1 is based on sixted generation Corvette technology.

The styling of the Endora SC-1 is inspired by the European and American models of the sixties and early seventies. It aims to combine dynamism, with elegance and individualism. The Endora SC-1 features HID headlights and LED fog-lights and taillights. IT has a long hood, an upward designed belt line and a dynamically shaped swing. In terms of aerodynamics, the Endora SC-1 features a rear diffuser, a wide front spoiler, and lode side skirts and a low ride height.

Under the hood, three different engines will be available. The entry-level model is powered by a 6.2-liter V8 that produces 436 PS (321 kW / 430 hp) and 424 lb-ft (574 Nm) of torque. Next up, the mid-range model has a 7.0-liter V8 with 512 PS (377 kW / 505 hp) and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque. Lastly, there's also a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that develops 647 PS (476 kW / 638 hp) and 604 lb-ft (818 Nm) of torque.

Every engine comes mated to a six-speed-manual gearbox, though customers opting for the base 430 horsepower mill can select an automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

Although no official acceleration times have been mentioned yet, it’s fair to say, in top-spec guise at least, the Endora SC-1 will perform like a retro muscle car, and at least keep up with the car it’s based on.

Dynamicly flowing body lines, a sporty sketched silhouette with a distinctive swing - the SC-1 picks up the looks and values of contemporary american and european Sports Cars once built in the sixties and early seventies and skillfully reinterprets it into the presence.

The Design
In its body shape the SC-1 among other things looks about the concept cars once built in the fifties, sixties and early seventies. Modern and timely interpreted without being too „retro" the SC-1 stands out due to its sharply patered front, holding high-intensity-discharge headlamps and LED-fog lights, a long engine hood, an upward designed belt line including a dynamicly shaped swing and a flowing rear end mit its extremly horizontally positioned back window.

The rear of the SC-1 houses two LED-taillights, optically accentuated through the black body part on which they were positioned. Below the beltline one can find an also black painted diffusor that contains the back-up- and fog-lamps.

A very special design cue is found on the side of the SC-1: Here a part of the body is formed in a contrasting color that somehow reminds of a design detail used on the classic sportscars once built in the fifties.

An amply dimensioned front spoiler not only lets the SC-1 be visually more to the ground, but also delivers a better compacting pressure to the front axle. Under consideration of all these details the car forms a harmonically designed, almost breath-taking entity. Uniqueness and polarization has a name - Endora SC-1.

The Technology
Under its flowing body lines SC-1-owners can trust on the modern technology of the current sixth generation of the Corvette. Therefore customers will get their Coupé equipped with a 6.2 Liter/376 ci Aluminum-V8 (437 hp, 424 lb-ft) already as the basic configuration. The second step in matters of power would be another eight cylinder, this time developing 512 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque out of its 7.0 Liter/437 ci engine. The top-of-the-line model will feature a supercharged version of the 6.2 Liter/376 ci V8, that will deliver an impressive 647 hp and 604 lb-ft of torque to the rear axle. Every engine is mated to a six-speed-manual gearbox, while an automatic transmission mit six gears and paddleshift is optional for the smallest V8.

The burned gasoline will be removed by sidepipes that end directly prior the rear wheel openings. The suspension of the SC-1 consists of cast aluminum upper and lower control arms, transverse-mounted composite leaf springs and monotube shock absorbers on all four ends. An electronic traction control is as standard as the Active Handling-system that monitors the driving dynamics. All Endora SC-1 will be delivered with 19 inch alloy wheels in the front and 20 inch rims in the back. As an option there will be 20 and 21 inch rims available.

Chevrolet Miray Concept Unveiled In Korea

The GM Korea births revealed the Chevrolet Miray (pronounced Mi-ray) concept at the latest 2011 Seoul Motor demo – a mid-electric hybrid-powered boasts example.

The concept's powertrain consists of two front-mounted electric motors, each producing 15 kW (20 bhp / 20 PS) of power for the front axle, coupled with a 1.5 liter four-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit mounted mid-rear which drives the back wheels. Current for the electric motors comes from a 1.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is recharged through regenerative braking.

Styling elements include a new interpretation of the Chevy dual-port grille, scissor doors, LED headlamps, and what the designers call Corvette front and rear fenders. Jet aircraft are also cited as inspirations. Aluminum wheels are 21 inches in diameter at the rear, 20 inches in front.

The Miray is capable of running on electric power alone and the petrol engine kicks in with his gearbox with double clutch change faster when extra power is needed. Chevrolet did not provide performance numbers, or range for the concept.
