Navigation friendly phones: Pics&Prices

GPS-enabled phone, check. Mapping software, check. Smooth running of maps on the phone, uncheck?

0

You can't have a map to everywhere (it is not advisable either!) but you can surely have a phone that supports map apps and helps you explore new surroundings or just find your way out of a forest. Check out the phones that are best suited for interruption-free navigation.

Blackberry 9900, Price: Rs 32,490

1

Bold 9900 is different from other Blackberry phones because apart from touch display, it has a keypad that can be used for typing in the destination. Also, you can install Google Maps, Waze and MapmyIndia Sygic on this phone though it comes with BlackBerry Maps.

SPECS: 2.8-inch display; 5 MP camera; 8GB onboard memory, 32GB expandable; A-GPS, Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi; 130 gm; 1230 mAh battery

Nokia N8, Price: Rs 22,000

2

.With Nokia's Ovi Maps pre-installed, you don't need any other software. Select maps from the main menu and the device will instantly build a satellite connection and track your current position. The voice directions are useful when you are driving alone. Good at multitasking, you can switch between other applications as well.

SPECS: 3.5-inch display; 8 MP camera; A-GPS support with OVi Maps, Bluetooth, 3G, Wi-Fi; 135 gm; 1200 mAh battery.

Apple iPhone 3G S, Price: Rs 19,990

3

If you recently brought an iPhone 3GS, thinking that it is, after all, an Apple iPhone, don't worry. Even the Phone 3G S is good at handling navigation. Similar in many respects to the iPhone 4, it comes with Google Maps and digital compass for navigation.

SPECS: 3.5-inch display; 3.15MP camera; 16GB/32GB; A-GPS with digital compass; Google Maps on board.

HTC Wildfire S, Price: Rs 13, 500

4

You don't want to spend much but still wish to experience navigation experience on your phone? Try out the HTC Wildfire S. Powered by a 600MHz processor, it might not offer you the best and smoothest navigation but it isn't bad either. Once again an Android offering, this too has Google Maps on board.

SPECS: 3.2 inch display; 5 MP camera; 512 MB RAM, 32GB expandable; 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi; 105 gms; 1230 mAh

Samsung Galaxy S II, Price: Rs 30,000

5

Touted to be the fastest smartphone in the industry, the Galaxy SII is powered by 1.2GHz dual core processor along with 1GB RAM. Hence, be it launching applications, browsing applications or even using AGPS, everything happens within a fraction of a second. The big capacitive bright display makes text input really very simple and the Google Maps on board along with digital compass offers an excellent navigation experience.

SPECS: 4.3-inch display; 8 MP camera; 16GB internal memory; A-GPS, 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi; 116 gm; 1650 mAh battery.

Apple iPhone 4, Price: Rs 34,500 (16 GB)

6

The next version of the iPhone is in the offing, but this doesn't mean the iPhone 4 isn't worth considering. The retina display is a killer and the A-GPS support along with digital compass is all you can ask for. Google Maps comes pre-installed on this phone. With plenty of navigation software and location-based apps available on App Store, you can do a lot more with this device.

SPECS: 3.5-inch display; 5 MP camera; 16GB/32GB onboard memory; A-GPS with digital compass, Wi-Fi, 3G; Google Maps on board.

LG Optimus 2x, Price: Rs 25, 499

7

If you have a tight budget and cannot afford to shell out Rs 30,000 for Samsung Galaxy SII, consider the LG Optimus 2x. It is powered by 1GHz dual-core processor and looks super fast in comparison to many other smartphones with a single core processor. The big and bright display can easily compensate for a navigator screen and the Google Maps pre-installed are good for basic routing.

SPECS: 4-inch display; 8 MP camera; 8GB onboard storage, 32GB expandable; A-GPS support with Google Maps, Bluetooth, EDGE, Wi-Fi, 3G; 139 gm; 1500 mAh battery.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc, Price: Rs 27,270

8

A perfect blend of beauty with brains is what you will say about the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc. Even with a 4.2-inch capacitive touch display, it is lightweight and looks stylish. By accessing settings, you can switch on GPS and enjoy navigation on the preinstalled Google Maps.

SPECS: 4.2-inch display; 8 MP camera; 320 MB storage memory, 32GB expandable; A-GPS with Google Maps, EDGE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G; 117 gm; 1500 mAh battery.

Top 10 Best SEO Tips for Beginners Slide 10

top10

seo

It’s not easy to say what the top 10 best SEO tips really are, especially with all the so-called “experts” claiming to know the latest SEO tricks and “secrets Google doesn’t want you to know about.” It would take you days, even weeks to sort through this mess. So we thought we’d make it easy for beginners at SEO and condense all the clutter into what we call our Top 10 SEO tips and tricks.

Keep in mind, though, that we did not list these in any particular order. #1 will be just as important as #10 and so on. Our goal is not to say which tips are more or less valuable, but rather, to give beginners a starting point in their SEO efforts. These are all important and they apply to any industry or organization.

1. Unique at Its Peak

1

Nothing really beats the original. Some people think that you could not find any unique ideas online, particularly if you have chosen a website niche that has high competition rate. Nonetheless, if you would keep the same attitude of not going the easy way and sacrificing the quality by “haggling the cost”, then expect a big impact of it not just to you but to your whole investment. If you feel that you can hire writers that would produce consistent unique content for your website, then go on but never settle for anything less by offering less of the value where you would get spun and even copied articles.

2. Linking Building for Better Ranking

2

This is the name of the game. You do not just produce quality articles but you make sure that you would get quality back links by having quality link building. Start from the basics and some of the tools for link building can be learned along the way. Think of the most preferred SEO tools that would help you hit the ball.

3. Keywords are Your Anchor

3

You don’t just provide keywords related to your website. You have to take time to research for the sets of keywords that would pull up your earnings and ranking. They are your literal anchor and they would keep you steady on unstable waters.

4. The Newest is the Freshest

4

Never forget to provide fresh and unique content and not just spun articles. If you don’t want to lose your investment and get everything trashed, then take time to provide a regular unique content to keep the pacing and ranking of your page.

5. Big Holes on Black Hat SEO

5

There is no easy way to get on the top and to start reaping the rewards. There is no short cut and you can’t even fool yourself on crap and other marketing strategies that others are offering and laying before you. Avoid them and you are assured of long-term success.

6. Start and Sign up on Free Tools

6

There are hundreds of article directories online, but we have to admit that some of them require investment to see the rewards. How do you do this without breaking the bank? Check everything and sign up on reputable article free directories. Later on, once familiarization and exposure is maximized, you could get enough returns to take advantage of other SEO tools and have things easy on your end.

7. User Friendly Website

7

Before you create a website, you have to put yourself on the shoes of the web users or visitors. To understand this process better, you have to visit other websites that you could see online where you can rate your experience upon visiting them. Everything can be judged from the first time you click the link. Do you feel that you were routed or directed to the site? How long did you get to see the site? Now, use them to start on your page or make some improvements.

8. Learn Mistakes and Avoid Them

8

We do learn when we realize and recognize that we have made minor or even big mistakes. In the business, avoiding as many mistakes as possible can be learned and cultivated by studying, researching, and asking those people who are ahead of you in this industry. Remember that we don’t learn anything at once; it takes time to get to know the whole picture. Therefore, start the puzzle and see that everything gets finished

9. Learn Social Marketing

9

Remember since this is a business, you have to capitalize on the free social networking sites where you have signed up, utilizing other features that could be linked to your website. Aside from article directory submission sites, Facebook, Twitter, and the latest, Google+, have something much to offer in expanding and disseminating various online information, particularly your website link. Of course, primarily, social bookmarking, media marketing, and blogging are important tools to effectively deliver information by submitting them to article directories. How to do them? Sign up and better learn how to do it using videos online and other gaining knowledge from SEO Gurus.

10. Stay Simple While Being a Mind Grabber

10

Simplicity is not just limited to personal appearance and way of life. It is the same game that any webmaster has to play for a website to be bookmarked by clients and customers. This is not about the flashy design and crawling effects that can be seen in typical websites, which are not made for business. Remember this is SEO, as it is said; simple things can bring about greater results. Let us not complicate things, especially in creating a name for the site. Being unique does not mean being too stiff and serious

Six Laptop Brands under Rs.45,000 that you could buy for college | Review

For those with ‘good news’ at the end of the college admissions season starts an entirely new and bigger phase of money-bleeding — for paying tuition fees, living expenses and buying that inseparable appendage of modern education: the Laptop.

1

Believe it or not, the laptop will be both the source of stress as well as its antidote in college. When you are not using the laptop for rigorous class assignments and presentations, it will be your all-in-one tool for watching movies, playing games, haunting social networking sites and staying in touch with your near and dear ones.

We looked up some of the best college-friendly laptops out there in the market and are briefly reviewing them for you. But before we begin, some de-jargonizing of typical computer terminology is in order.

The Processor

It being the brain of the computer, we suggest you opt for the most powerful multiple core processors for the best computing performance. 'The more the merrier' couldn't have been more applicable than while selecting processors. Look out for the generation of the processor as your laptop's efficiency depends on it. You can find out the generation of the processor by simply looking at its code. A code that read like 2xxx, means that the processor belongs to Intel's latest 'second-generation' of processors. These line of processors offer better graphics and video processing capabilities while consuming lesser power over its first generation counterparts. Your laptop will thus work for longer hours.

Here is how to interpret a processor's nomenclature. Suppose a processor is named 'Intel Core i3-380M Processor (2.53GHz, 4 Threads, 3M cache)'. Then,

i3-380m is the processor code. This is an Intel first-generation core processor (a second generation processor will have codes along the lines of 2xxx, for example '2130').

2.53 GHz is the clock Speed; higher this number, better the performance.

4 Threads indicates the multitasking capabilities of your processor. The more the number of threads, better the processor.

3M Cache - the L3 (Level 3) Cache Memory of the CPU.

Random Access Memory (RAM)

The higher the RAM, the lesser a computer's tendency to hang while you multitask between multiple software applications. For a new laptop, a DDR3 RAM of 3GB is sufficient for running Windows 7 and other ancillary applications that you will use extensively in your b-school curriculum. We are talking about applications such as Microsoft Excel, SPSS or Minitab. Make sure that the RAM in you laptop is upgradeable, as you never know when you might want to pimp the machine up.

2

Graphics Processing Unit (GPU)

A GPU in a laptop is quite like the power-windows feature in a car: it is good if you have one, but it is not necessary. Most modern processors powering today's laptops have an in-built GPU which allows them to produce decent graphics. But if you would like to use your laptop for high-end gaming or watching high-definition movies, you should consider adding an external GPU. You will have to shell out more, but it will significantly enhance your gaming and multimedia experience. Oh and yes, GPUs tend to be battery drainers and cause laptops to heat up. So do look up reviews of the particular GPU model on the Internet before buying the laptop.

But if you're going to largely keep your laptop usage limited to b-school-related software and watching standard quality movies, you can give an external GPU a miss.

Make sure your laptop has a VGA-out port. You will need it to connect to projectors for showing those dazzling Picasso-shaming Powerpoint presentations that you will subject your professors to.

After-sales Service

To limit the damage caused by malfunctions for a longer period of time, opt for the 'extended manufacturer warranty' at an additional cost. Ask your seniors how good their service experience has been with various brands in the city your b-school is situated in.

Onwards ho to the laptops. We are suggesting a few laptops priced below Rs 45,000 for,

1. Running academics-related software

2. Watching movies in hi-definition and

3. Playing the occasional game (like Need For Speed (NFS), Grand Theft Auto (GTA), CounterStrike, Warcraft III, etc)

Inspiron 14 Notebook

#4 Dell Inspiron 14R New Laptop

Specifications

Processor: Intel Core I3-380m (2.53 GHz, 4 Threads, 3M)

RAM: 4GB DDR3

Hard disk: 500 GB SATA 5400 Rpm

Screen Size: 14? (35.6cm) HD WLED Glossy Display with TrueLife™ (1366×768)

GPU: Intel HD Graphics

OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 64bit (English)

Weight: 2.25 kg.

Price: Rs 34,400-ish.

Pros: RAM, and HDD, lower price, easily portable (14'' screen). Accidental Damage cover by Dell in the warranty period, which can be extended to second year at an extra cost of Rs 3235. Recommended if there is almost no need for gaming and/or viewing HD content.

Cons: No GPU, basic 1st generation i3 processor.

Why is it here?

This is a laptop that is purely for people who are looking for something that matches the rigours of a curriculum; nothing more, nothing less. This laptop can easily take the load of the applications needed in the MBA course, but might tire out if used for gaming or extensive multimedia. Recommended if you absolutely do not need a laptop for gaming or viewing HD content.

#3 Hewlett-Packard HP G6-1017TU

Specifications

Processor: Intel Core i5-2410M (2.30GHz, 4 threads, turbo boost up to 2.93 Ghz, 3M cache)

RAM: 4 GB DDR3 (Upgradable to 8 GB)

HDD: 320GB SATA 5400 Rpm

Screen Size: 15.6? (39.6cm) HD LED HP BrightView Display (1366×768)

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Internal)

OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 64bit (English)

Weight: 2.4 kg

Price: Rs 40,500

Pros: 2nd Gen i5 processor (fast, really), decent RAM.

Cons: No separate GPU.

Why is it here?

A very well-rounded package for business needs, with a fast processor and ample RAM. Well suited for delivering rich multimedia experience coupled with superb performance in routine tasks. The lack of a separate GPU means that avid gamers might want to look for some other options, but it can handle casual games quite well with Intel HD Graphics 3000 integrated GPU.

#3 Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 59-067847

Specifications

Processor: Intel Core i5-2410M (2.30GHz, 4 threads, turbo boost up to 2.93Ghz, 3M cache)

RAM: 4 GB DDR3 (Upgradable to 8 GB)

HDD: 640GB SATA 5400 Rpm

Screen Size: 15.6 HD LED Glare (1366×768)

GPU: Integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000

OS: Win7 Home Premium( 64 Bits)

Weight: 2.5 kg

Price: Rs 40,990+tax

Pros: Good processor, RAM and HDD config, Windows 7 Home Premium

Cons: Price, absence of a separate GPU will cause problems for gamers.

Why is it here?

This model has slight edge over the Hewlett Packard HP G6-1017TU as it offers an additional 320GB HDD space and Windows 7 Home premium, which offer better multimedia capabilities over Windows 7 Home Basic. But because of its price the Lenovo ties with HP for #3.

7

#2 Lenovo IdeaPad Z570 59-069600

Specifications

Processor: Intel Core i3-2310M (2.10 GHz 3M cache)

RAM: 4GB DDR3 (Upgradable to 8 GB)

HDD: 640GB SATA 5400 Rpm

Screen Size: 14? (35.6cm) Widescreen HD WLED Glossy Display with TrueLife™ (1366×768)

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GT 520M - 1GB

OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 64-bit (English)

Weight: 2.6 kg

Price: Rs 38,990+tax

Pros: 2nd Gen i3 processor, ample RAM and HDD space, and a separate GPU too!

Cons: The processor could have been faster, like a first generation i-5.

Why is it here?

A gaming laptop, akin to the #1, albeit with slightly downscaled performance parameters. However, the price is lower as well.

The only difference between this and the #1 laptop is the processor. The i3 second generation here, we feel is slightly underpowered. Both of them are at par as far as graphics is concerned with Lenovo's Nvidia 520M only slightly losing out. However with Nvidia's optimizer solution Optimus, the GPU power consumption is regulated for giving an optimum battery life. All in all a very good buy. Let us say Lenovo lost in a photo finish.

8

#1 Dell Inspiron 14R

Specifications

Processor: Intel Core i5-480M (2.66GHz, 4Threads, turbo boost up to 2.93Ghz, 3M cache)

RAM: 4 GB DDR3 (Upgradable to 8 GB)

HDD: 320GB SATA 5400 Rpm

Screen Size: 14? (35.6cm) Widescreen HD WLED Glossy Display with TrueLife™ (1366×768)

GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 5650 - 1GB

OS: Genuine Windows 7 Home Basic SP1 64bit (English)

Weight: 2.25 kg

Price: Rs 40,626 for this configuration, Rs 35,400 without Graphics card and 3 GB RAM.

Pros: Everything. Accidental Damage cover by Dell in the warranty period, which can be extended to second year at an extra cost of Rs 3235..

Cons: HDD space could've been larger.

Why is it here?

An i5 processor with 4GB RAM, coupled with a high-mid range separate GPU we guess that the configuration speaks volumes. And as stated earlier, Dell is known to have a superb after-sales service. It edges out the Lenovo Ideapad Z570 mainly because of its processor and its graphics handling capabilities are far better than the others in this range. The best laptop at this price, for b-school requirements, high definition movie watching and occasional gaming.

PS: For people willing to put a graphics card in their laptops and run the machine for more than 12 hours a day, you might want to invest in a laptop cooling stand. And if you want to use/play unplugged, a 9-cell battery would take care of the extra power consumption.

PPS: Apple makes excellent laptops. It's just that they never bother to come down to this price range.

Advisory

We have observed some people considering the Apple iPad or other tablet devices as a substitute for a full-fledged laptop. If you ask us, tablets such as the iPad or the Blackberry Playbook have not been designed and are not intended to replace a laptop. So please don't think of the iPad as a substitute to a laptop. Tablets for now are niche media consumption devices not geared up for complex spreadsheet or presentation-creating activities.

San Francisco: Apple Inc. has sued Samsung Electronics Co. over patent infringement in a latest suit, Xinhua reported Monday.

The suit, filed last Friday in US District Court in California, alleged that Samsung's smartphones, such as "Glaxy S 4G" and "Nexus S", and the Galaxy line of tablet computers violated Apple's patent and trademark, according to All Things Digital, a technology and startup company news site.

"It's no coincidence that Samsung's latest products look a lot like the iPhone and iPad, from the shape of the hardware to the user interface and even the packaging," the report quoted an Apple representative as saying.

Intellectual property suits can be often seen among mobile computing rivals, including suits between Microsoft and Motorola, a suit by Oracle against Google, and Apple's patent dispute with Nokia and HTC.

Although Samsung supplies chips for a number of Apple products, Apple CEO Steve Jobs once openly mocked Samsung and other tablet makers as "copycats" during the iPad2 launch. Last month, Apple reportedly entered into a partnership with China's Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. to make iPad chips.
